Go Speed Racer Go!

This was a personal project by my brother Tory and I. One that meant a lot to the both of us. We have both been fans of Speed Racer since childhood. A few years ago, we secured the lives to produce this limited edition collectable. I designed the product, Tory made the patterns of the car and base, and we had it produced in a factory in Rhode Island. We sold a few hundred pieces, and to this day was one of the most enjoyable projects I have worked on!

About me

Well first off, usually I smile more than in this picture, but enough about that. I have literally been involved in the Toy Industry my entire life. My father had worked for some great companies like Remco, Aurora, Mego, Ideal and Coleco. I have been going to Toy Fairs for over 50 years. The Toy Industry is in our family’s DNA. My son is a third generation toy designer working at Funko Toys. My brother is a 40 year toy industry veteran working as a top level model maker.

I have been drawing and sketching since I could hold a pencil. I had the good fortune to work with some amazing designers when I was an intern at CBS, while in college.

When my career began in toys, I gained experience designing toys in a variety of disciplines, including injection molding, roto molding, vacuum forming, inflatables, blow molding and more. I also managed timelines, outsourced to vendors, worked with factories, managed budgets and built relationships with inventors and licensors including Disney, TMNT, Sesame Street, Harley Davidson, and more. These are all skills I use on a daily basis at Company 5, the design firm I started 27 years ago.

I love drawing, sketching, rendering and talking about toys!

hmmm .. you think I would have at least smiled in this photo …time for a reshoot.

(Thanks Allison for taking these photos!)
